How To Depressurize a Clack-Based System

Before you work on a water softener or backwashing filter, it needs to be depressurized. This article described how to depressurize a system that uses a Clack control valve.

  1. Make sure the system is in bypass mode
  2. Force the system into a backwash or regeneration cycle
    1. For softeners, do this by pressing and holding the REGEN button until the motor engages, then release
    2. For systems without a REGEN button, press and hold the UP and DOWN buttons until the motor engages, then release
  3. Step the system through the stages of a backwash or regeneration
    1. For softeners, press the REGEN button at each stage to advance to the next stage
    2. For systems without a REGEN button, press the DOWN button at each stage to advance to the next stage
  4. When you see the clock, the backwash or regeneration cycle is complete, and the system will be depressurized.
